Summary/Abstract: The article focuses on two strategies and poetics subordinated to Milosz’s idea of having “a grip on reality” in his poetry. In the first strategy, the poet is a path-finder of reality, a hermeneutist of the discourse of reality, an exegesist of what appears in it as incomprehensible or inexpressible. The second of Miłosz’s strategies is the strategy of “mindfulness”, which became very pronounced in his writings toward the end of his life, but was actually a renewal of the poetics that he had been practicing for a long time. In both strategies, the poetry is a construction of reality, which language structures as a scene in which reality appears. The poetry as a result of fictional action and an “event” in language, is a matrix in which reality comes into being.
