THE MATRIX OF DOMAINS PERTINENT TO THE MEANING SPECTRUM OF THE LEXICAL ITEM ‘LUCK’ ON THE BASIS OF SCIENTIFIC AND EVERY-DAY CONCEPTUALIZATIONS

Summary/Abstract: The paper presents a cognitive analysis of selected understandings of luck with the focus on possible conceptualizations contained in these understandings. The aim is to establish a matrix of domains for the meaning spectrum of the lexical item ,luck’. The analysis encompasses selected scientific definitions and every-day ideas gathered from a group of people surveyed on the topic. In the course of the analysis the conceptualizations were examined, compared with respect to the level of their generality, whereupon the domains were established and assessed concerning their centrality.
