Summary/Abstract: Two texts within a manuscript collection of the 18th century (the Library of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Kargopol collection,№ 62) copied by Daniil Matveev (1687–1776), the Old Believer scribe from the Vyg-Leksa Community are analyzed in the article. One of the texts is a compilation on the topic reflecting the process of taking monastic vows. This text written by the Vyg scribe isbased on canonic, liturgical and hagiographic texts. It is noted in the article that Daniil Matveev paid special attention to all unordinaryand rare cases from the history of saints going into convent. The interest to this topic was probably related to Daniil Matveev’sreflections on the prospects of the institution of monasticism in the Vyg-Leksa Community. The compilation in focus is also studiedin the context of some other works written in Vyg, which are devoted to extraordinary examples of holiness in the history of Christianity. The other text within the Kargopol collection and copied by Daniil Matveev is the Life of St. Kirill Chelmogorsky. The articleanalyzes characteristics of this copy and puts forward a hypothesis that Daniil Matveev was one of the contributing authors to the Life of St. Kirill.
