Summary/Abstract: Visible Learning 2009 of John Hattie is based on a huge 15-year research project to discover what works in schools. The principle throughout the book is “visible teaching and learning”. When the teaching is visible the student knows what to do and how to do it. Teachers know how to introduce new knowledge. They can adapt the lessons according to student’s needs. Teachers monitor learning and provide feedback. The article considers the role of “visible teaching and learning” in teaching foreign languages particularly in teaching the German language.
