Summary/Abstract: The theme of this article is focused on the identity of Basque people who are living mainly in Spain and the generation differences concerning their perception. In the following text the author makes an attempt to understand the identity of Basque people nowadays. The main objective is to determine and point out the most important symbols which construct the ethnic identity of Basque people, find out whether there are visible generation differences in perception of their own identity and answer the main research questions related to this theme. It is mainly based on a qualitative research with contribution of quantitative data. The practical part contains results of a research conducted in the long time period in Bizkaia (Biscay), a part of Spain. Methodology of the thesis is based on study and analysis of information resources and field research. In the final part of the thesis the author presents own conclusions. The main conclusion will be formulated based on a synthesis of theoretical and practical part, results of author’s own work and evaluation of data.
