Silesian identity from the perspective of intergenerational comparisons in the region Opavsko

Summary/Abstract: This paper is dedicated to the construction of Silesian identity at the area of the Opava region.The topic is examined from the point of view of representatives of three generations ofSilesians. The objects of interest are primarily the attributes of local identity by which is thecollective identity formed. The paper is further asking the question, whether there is anintergenerational transmission of this identity and its attributes. Professional literature andother relevant information sources were used for acquiring the key information, howevermainly the qualitative research in the form of narrative and semi structured interviews withresidents of the Opava region was applied. Processing of those forms the crucial contents ofthis paper, which is demonstrating the current perception of Silesian identity in the Opavaregion.
