Summary/Abstract: Today, more than ever, due to the changes that constantly occur, generally, within the societies, a natural question arises: “To which extent is the Romanian rural space still traditional?” In an attempt to offer an answer to this question, within this article, we aim at assessing, from a gender perspective, how traditional the Romanian rural space is. Namely, by applying a qualitative method, our inquiry focuses upon the occupations and roles assumed by women in Romanian rural areas. The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate that what we today call “traditionalism” within the rural framework strongly depends upon the mentalities of the social actors regarding either the need to preserve/transmit, to the future generation, the inveterate values regarding household activities and gender roles, or the need to overpass them.
