RESULTS OF BASIC SOLUTIONS OF THE POLISH EDUCATION REFORMS DURING THE LAST DECADE

Summary/Abstract: In Poland, as in other European countries the system of education has been reformed for the last decade. The last part of the reform started in 1999. After several years of observation and research monitoring, one can assess the results of the main educational reform solutions. The article includes evaluation of the effects of the following reforms: decentralization of school management, decentralization of curriculum (and handbooks), revolutionary change of the school system (first of all, introduction of junior high school) and development of the external system of examinations. Based on some research results, both positive and negative consequences of educational reforms in Poland are presented and discussed. There is also more general reflection stressed in the article and it is addressed to policy makers – teachers and representatives of school environment should become partners in the process of education renewal to a greater extend at all its levels.
