Summary/Abstract: The process of nullity of marriage is to discover the truth about marriage. An oath to tell the truth is inherent in the process of marriage. An oath is the invocation of the divine Name as witness to the truth. It cannot be taken except in truth, judgment and justice (can. 1199 § 1 CIC). In the process of nullity of a marriage, the judge is to administer an oath to the parties to tell the truth or at least to con rm the truth of what they have said unless a grave cause suggests otherwise. The judge is to administer an oath to the witness. An oath to tell the truth is to strengthen the testimony of the parties and witnesses.
