Summary/Abstract: In this article the author deals with the matter of the role of a social worker in the process of help hospice patients and their families. Patients who require hospice palliative care require comprehensive help and work of many people. In its whole, there are social workers who solve many problems of the patient and his environment – in home hospice and palliative care for adults, children and stationary care. The participation of the social worker in the hospice activity is an expression of the medicine humanization. The person who carries out such work is required to have expertise knowledge in various fields of science – sociology, psychology, pedagogy, the foundations of law and medicine. The author recalls in an article the fact, that the social worker must be social and legal expert as well as social therapist.
