Summary/Abstract: Preparations of fungal are used in the treatment of various diseases. Lentinula edodes (shiitake) is the medicinal species of fungus belongs do the type of Basidiomycota. From the fruiting bodies or mycelia of this mushroom is isolated the lentinan – exopolysaccharide with immunomodulatory activity. Lentinan is used in Asian countries as a drug with proven anticancer activity. This article presents the shiitake and his unusual properties.
