Summary/Abstract: Based on Seamus Heaney’s last collection of verse, Human Chain (2010), the paper addresses the issues of old age as experienced by the poet aware of his dwindling potential; it also demonstrates how, despite his brush with death, and grappling with frailty and memory loss, he is determined to make the best of what life has in store for him.
