Summary/Abstract: The paper examines the picture of society in four of Williams’ plays. Even though portrayals of four different periods of the 20th century America, the plays reflect a single, apocalyptic vision of society, whose main determinant is paradox, an intrinsic feature of southern mentality, Williams's personality, and contemporary events.
