Summary/Abstract: “Embourgeoisement .and Modernization”, “The Austro-Hungarian Monarchy”, and “Vienna, Budapest, and Prague at the Turn of the Century”— these are the hot topics of the day in Hungarian historiography. Every journal editor worth his salt has brought out at least one issue on the subject. Book publishers are also doing their bit: in the last few years the stores have been inundated with books on the Habsburgs and their empire, among them the excellent monographs by István Deák and William McCagg.
