The First Record in Romanian Literature of Saint Dionysius Exiguus

Summary/Abstract: Saint Dionysius Exiguus is mentioned for the first time in the Romanian literature in the preface to Menaion on December, written by Bishop Chesarie of Râmnic. Thus Dionysius Exiguus was born in Scythia Minor, today‟s Dobrudja,mentioned in Chesarie‟s preface as tatar. The reason why Bishop Chesarie wrote aboutDionysius Exiguus being a tatar and not scythian remains unknown until now. The problem is reduced to severeal hypotheses. Whatever, the cause that led Bishop Chesarie to translate the term Scythian with tatar is that Dionysius Exiguus was originary from Scythia, today‟sDobrudja, as his biographer, Casiodor, says.
