Summary/Abstract: The paper compares German and French press reviews of two productions by the German director Thomas Ostermeier. It deals with his stagings of William Shakespeare’s Othello (2010) and Measure for Measure (2011), which were shown both in Germany and France. Reactions in these countries differed widely and the paper endeavours to explain these differences.
