Summary/Abstract: Language determines the process of cognition. Any process of cognition is the interpretation of the world through language. Emotions are one of the ways of not only reflecting, but also interpreting and evaluating the reality. One of the most fundamental and important emotions is the emotion of fear, sometimes called the motivational basis of human consciousness. The frequency of emotion words in discourse is one of the basic indices of changes taking place in modern reality and society. The present article attempts to analyse the linguistic realization of the concept of fear in the language of the press. The analysis is based on examples from press texts which represent modern Russian- American political relations. The analysis of the language of the press provides the basis for the presentation of the main sources of both real and imagined fear.
