Official announcements as tools limiting freedom of the media

Summary/Abstract: Official announcements have always been instruments restricting media freedom. Therefore, we should try to eliminate such messages completely or, at least, considerably reduce them. While the analysis of Polish legislation gives evidence of the opposite trend. The current regulation is very restrictive and applies to all the media, not just newspapers. Recent modifications have tightened it by significantly expanding the ring of those entitled to publish such announcements. It appears that this problem hasn’t been noticed in the prepared draft of amendment and the criminal liability of the editors for evading the publication of official announcements is maintained.
