Summary/Abstract: A controversial personality, A. C. Cuza has been known mainly for his anti-Semitic convictions and less for his academic career. He held the Chair of Economics within the Law School of the University of Iasi at a time when Romanian higher education was struggling to redefine itself in an attempt to become an alternative to parallel Western higher education. He taught generations of students, many of which declared their respect and consideration for his effort to pass on his knowledge. The present study is a brief excursion into the academic life of A. C. Cuza, a personality that was labelled by many as the founder of Romanian anti-Semitism, as well as an attempt at depicting the atmosphere of academic life at the end of the 19th century and in the first decades of the 20th.
