Summary/Abstract: The main purpose set to this paper is to present the influence of the way in which a female character is portrayed through the eyes of a legend, the legend of Melusine, concerning the view that A.S. Byatt has shaped in the book and in what degree the movie succeeds to maintain it. A. S. Byatt creates the author in such manner to carry out the portrait and the analysis of the female figure, in the same time, the Victorian and the 20th century perspective but from both perspectives: from the male and female points of view. The theoretical framework, to put it like this, is the legend of the fairy Melusine and we will observe the connections and the differences between Christabel LaMotte and Melusine.
