Summary/Abstract: Demographic indicators in Bosnia and Herzegovina demonstrate marked trends of the depopulation of its Croatian inhabitants during the 20th century. Except for natural migration, natality and mortality, the main reason for this phenomenon are migrations, both political and economic. Economic migrations occurred during peaceful times, mostly due to seeking opportunities while political migrations were initiated in wars during “The Century of Warfare”. In fact, these forced migrations will be the subject of research, which will be based on official censuses and other data, mainly from the Catholic Church and will analyze the impacts of war and refugees on the depopulation of the Croatian inhabitants in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The proportions of depopulation will be shown as a basis for the demographic processes and signal its inevitable decline in the future. In the example of the micro region of the Catholic parish of Stjepan Krst, accurate figures will demonstrate the depopulation of the Croatian inhabitants as caused by the wars of the 20th century. Depopulation will be examined from a historical-demographic point of view, and though other perspectives, mainly political and economic. Highlighted will be the reasons and consequences of the complete disappearance of Croats from the territory of the parish of Stjepan Krst during the Homeland War. The prospects for the future will attempt to determine the guidelines for the return of the Croatian population through the revitalization of villages, revival of the economy and renewal of infrastructure as fundamental preconditions of sustainable return.
