Summary/Abstract: In the Old Testament, there was a great emphasis on the family and the birth and the education of the children. At the foundation of the society stood the family, based on the prescriptions of the Torah given by God to Moses. In the scriptural pages, the relations between men and women in marriage are particularly complex. Sometimes, the love between the two is considered important, othertimes the worries for success, in other cases the two are married thanks to the parents. In view of the chosen people, marriage and procreation were true religious acts-mitzvot. A family who had children was considered to be blessed by God, was seen as a viable example of modus vivendi of the faith. In his turn, the child was seen as a real godsend, a major source of stability and prosperity. The father was concerned about the child education at first, and then he was able to use the services of a public school. This article captures various aspects of the young Israelite’s education in the Old Testament, the content of the education matters, educators, social implications, etc.
