The Implementation of the Computer System PROLIB in the Theological Library of the University of Silesia in Katowice. An Outline of the Problem.

Summary/Abstract: The paper covers the main issues concerning library system used in the Theological Library of the University of Silesia in Katowice (previously the Library of the Higher Silesian Theological Seminary). In the first part the history of library computerization was presented. The second part of the article describes the stages of implementation of computer system PROLIB which is used by all University of Silesia libraries. The characteristics and description of the system primary functions were given, then staff trainings and stages of conversion of the data sets (books, periodicals and readers) were analyzed in depth. In the end the most important advantages and disadvantages of PROLIB system were summarized.
