Summary/Abstract: According to László Kálmán, Chomsky’s “ars poetica” is: “It does not matter whether I am right or not; what really matters is how great my ideas are”. He goes on to say that Chomsky is the world champion of scientific mischief. And so on, and so on. This is a sad and rather provincial affair. For Chomsky is, without doubt, one of the greatest scientists of our times. To speak of such a major figure as if he were a half-witted liar at the very least places a question mark over the rationality of the enterprise. It is possible, of course, to disagree with Chomsky; for the most part, I have done exactly that, and have even written a book explaining why.
