Summary/Abstract: The article presents the results of research on the participation of Russian volunteers in sabotage activities during the civil war on the territory of former Yugoslavia in the 1990s. It describes the volunteers' combat trail, probable motives, as well as the methods of recruitment and redeployment. Moreover, the author attempts to answer the significant question: whether the Russians involved in combat activities were mercenaries or – as they claim themselves – volunteers.
