Summary/Abstract: After 1989 the Poles, who were enslaved during communism and humiliated with lies about their own history, needed a story with their own heroes. They craved a narrative about how Poles fought for freedom. It is a natural need for those overcoming a traumatic situation. The new government’s historical policy aims to satisfy this need.
