Summary/Abstract: The status of grandparents has not been separately treated by Slovak ethnological literature. The article is dealing with this issue based on the Bratislava model. The persistence of many traditional norms characterising family relationships in the urban social environment, including those with grandparents, was due to the fact that the human potential of an urban community was gradually taking on its shapes in close symbiosis with the rural background setting.
