Summary/Abstract: A Franciscan message of the Laudato si’ is clear for the readers from the very beginning. The first verses are directly connected with the Canticle of the Sun written by St. Francis of Assisi. The aim of the article is to outline the Franciscan inspirations of the papal document. Some of these inspirations in theological analysis belong to St. Bonaventure, a Franciscan theologian and philosopher. The article tries to show other Franciscan elements of pope’s teaching. It also presents the socioeconomic ideas that were created long ago by the Franciscan friars and have been used now in pope Francis’ encyclical. Thereby the article proves that the revolutionary pope’s teaching in fact is deeply rooted in the Catholic Franciscan tradition.
