Tautology of verbal prefixes in dialects

Summary/Abstract: Verbal prefixes, apart from two basic functions i.e. semantical and grammatical, may also serve tautological functions. The process of creating verbal synonymous derivatives was alive in historical Polish language and remained alive in dialects. The purpose of this dissertation is to present the processes of creating corresponding derivatives on the example of a verbal material of southern Mazovian dialects, point possible causes of tautology phenomenon, as well as an attempt to determine where tautology ends and where prefix semantics starts.
