Summary/Abstract: The article recalled the profile of an outstanding German scientist, Max Weber, sociologist, economist, lawyer, religious scholar and social sciences methodologist, whose impressive scientific achievements became also a permanent part of the classic school of organization and management. The introduction presented biographical aspects from the scientist’s life. Subsequently, a presentation of basic issues relating to Max Weber’s achievements was given with particular focus on the theory of power along with the concept of bureaucratic organization. In this respect, the basic assumptions of the ideal bureaucracy model were characterized, a thread of the rationalization of operations and model criticism was articulated and the importance of M. Weber’s research for contemporary concept of a public governance was presented. In the final part, attention was drawn to the impact of Weber’s achievements on the development of the new field of sociology, the organization sociology.
