Summary/Abstract: Księżacy from Łowicz distinguished themselves from their neighbours and other ethnic groups withtheir speech and customs, but primarily with their outfit which is regarded to be the most glamorousof all Masovian costumes.In the first half of the 19th century woolen striped fabrics (which changed its colours over theyears) became the basis of this costume. The Łowicz folk costume has been preserved until today,but it has undergone so many transformations that it does not resemble the one from the beginning of19th century. The modern, 20th century costume is more colourful and features richer ornamentation.The subject of this paper is to discuss the vocabulary connected to the Łowicz folk costume.Names for women’s and men’s costumes as well as the names of colors from the Łowicz stripedfabric will be presented, along with their various versions from the area of the Łowicz Duchy.
