Summary/Abstract: The process of European integration opened up the road ”from Dayton to Brussels”, moved the country from the phase of the post-conflict management and stabilization to an institution-building and transition period. Through the fulfilment of requirements listed in the EU Road Map from March 2000, the national government progressively acquired new authorities that were not mentioned in the Dayton Peace Agreement. In the aftermath of the 2002 elections, just before the EU Feasibility Study started, the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina was given new competencies in areas such as judiciary, security, customs and tariff administrations and policies, defences, human rights, food security, competition etc. As for the future, the existing state structure will be additionally adjusted to modern European practice. European integration is the best exit strategy for the international community from BiH. These changes will be carried out through the gradual fulfilment of political, economic, legal and administrative criteria of the EU.
