Summary/Abstract: Proper names, as components of linguistic structure in journalistic texts, are important for two primary functions: informational and persuasive. Their role in informational texts is to identify and differentiate. As impartial cognitive components, described objects and conditions, proper names indicate, call directly, locate in time and space, update and give credibility. Authors of persuasive messages make use of proper names for axiological perception of reality. Evaluation, in this case, is based on connotations linked to proper names used metaphorically. These connotations, then, are derivatives of knowledge and ideas about the word`s primary meaning. As a result, positive and negative connotations as metaphors are a convenient means of persuasion. They influence attitudes, beliefs, decisions and actions of recipients.
