The Lexeme ‘Sofia’ in The History of Bulgarian Language and Culture

Summary/Abstract: The semantic realizations of the word Sofia in the history of Bulgarian literary language and culture are examined in this academic paper. The linguistic facts for божыа прѣмѫдрость, вѣра, надежда, любы in old Bulgarian manuscripts and new Bulgarian damaskins are used. The phenomenon αγία σοφία in Christianity and Bulgarian culture and its relation to names of the churches and of the Bulgarian capital are analyzed.
