Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to diagnose and analyze the social phenomenon of being single not only by choice but on account of objective, unrecognized and independent factors from the individual’s point of view. Definition of a single person by choice is also a matter of my interest as many ways of loneliness can be chosen nowadays by a particular person. Decision of being single or living in a marriage implies outlook of a future, adult life. It is commonly seen that a young person postpone what to do with a family life taking up new professional or educational challenges. This article was furthermore inspired to show singlism as a new, alternative to family and marriage life way of living. Nowadays, in a quite modernized and globalized world, young people are trying to find many ways of their aspirations and ambitions to be fulfilled. By trying to achieve those goals, single people neglect the most pivotal field of life as the family matters are. A social identity of a single person is being damaged as such is concentrated on the professional issues so much that he forgets about starting the family which aspect seems to be unimportant or underestimated by him. The identity is an attempt of answering to the question who I am. However, in a single people’s case identity is frequently incomplete and fragmentary. Taking those factors into account, single people are focused on his professional and entertainment fields of life much too often, forgetting at the same time about the most crucial value in life as the family is, its starting, supporting and development.
