Summary/Abstract: This article puts Walery Zygmunt L. Przyborowski’s fiction in the context of positivist writing. The author is primarily known as a writer of history fiction. Among his prolific output some issues have also distinct characteristics of socio-moral prose. These include: Hinda, Życie za marzenie, Na mogile, Za grzechy krwi, O cześć ojcowską, Czerwona mara czy O miliony. The characters in these novels are exponents of characteristic features of positivism. The writer showed the complexity of the problems of the nation under occupation, drew attention to the complexity of the relationships between the various nationalities inhabiting the Polish lands and links the elements of social life in the context of historical events.
