Summary/Abstract: Some children and adolescents can have a high level of intellectual (academic) abilities or in other areas, such as music, arts or sports. According to studies which have been conducted in gifted or exceptional children and adolescents, such children or adolescents tend to show precocity not only in terms of cognitive and intellectual abilities, but also in terms of social skills and emotional intelligence. Such children and adolescents tend to differentiate themselves from peers who have a regular level of intellectual endowment. The survey that we conducted on students attending the Regional Center of Excellence for Gifted Young People from Iaşi (N = 31) revealed a significantly higher level of emotional intelligence, compared with students who had a regular level of intellectual endowment (N = 135). Also, in terms of social intelligence, gifted adolescents scored higher than those non-gifted, but the difference was not statistically significant. Some implications of the results in relation to educational programmes for gifted children and adolescents are presented.
