Summary/Abstract: The paper offers a brief account of Sidney’s and Shelley’s defence of poetry. Although there are certain obvious distinctions to be observed in their respective modes of argumentation, Ser Philip Sidney and Percy Bysshe Shelly present us with the Apology of Poesy in the essential implications of the term. The narrative structure of their Apologies follows the progression of their poetic thoughts. The analytical and synthetic account of Sidney’s and Shelley’s defence of poetry aims at presenting the binding points of their argumentations which constitute their respective poetic thoughts as relevant in any time, hence for any perspective to be taken in contemplating poetics and aesthetic values of a literary work.
