Summary/Abstract: In this paper we made comparison between the novels The portrait of the young artist by James Joyce and The Garden, Ashes by Danilo Kis thanks to psychoanalytic methods . The comparison not only examined the influence of Joyce’s creativity on literature in 20th century, but the reflection of Joyce’s narrative at the artist, rebel, exile, and the witnessof time in one of the portraits of artists in Serbian literature after World War II, at the portrait of Andreas Sam in Kis’s novel Garden, Ashes. Through the figures of the artist in his youth, and through other themes sush as art, religion and poetic sensibility, we observed similarity in Joyce’s and Kis`s narrative . The aim was to identify authentic narrative-conceptual components in the arts of two writers
