QUALITY OF PUBLIC SPACE OF ZDUŃSKA WOLA TOWN CENTER

Summary/Abstract: Public space located in town center is of particular importance: it fulfills fundamental economic, social and cultural functions, at the same time being the carrier of town identity, creating its image and influencing attractiveness of town as a whole. The quality of public space of town center evokes economic benefits, underpins social cohesion, enhances the identification of inhabitants with their town and increases their quality of life. Public space can also positively influence the public health due to enabling active recreation and public safety thanks to the presence of users in urban space at the different times of the day. The quality of public space depends on various factors, of physical and social character, objective and subjective ones. Only combination of these factors can constitute the high quality of public space. Towns which want to assure the high quality of public space of town center should strive to develop and transform it, adjusting it to contemporary needs and ensuring realization of all essential factors.
