Summary/Abstract: This paper presents EFL learning and teaching in primary school which implements Maria Montessori’s philosophy of education and the main principles of her pedagogy. The first part of the paper focuses on general principles of education according to Montessori’s philosophy and describes their implementation in the school. The second part of the paper is devoted to principles and techniques of learning and teaching English in the described Montessori school. Examples of children’s and parents’ opinions on ways of learning and teaching English in the Montessori school are presented and a preliminary attempt is made to assess the effectiveness of the EFL learning and teaching process in the school. In the final part of the paper, the described EFL teaching is compared with contemporary principles and techniques of teaching EFL to young learners. The conclusion drawn from the discussion stresses learners’ autonomy as a characteristic positive feature of the described school but also takes into account an experimental character of the school and a number of factors which seem to contribute to its present success.
