Summary/Abstract: Interfaith marriage continues to be a problem of the modern world, similar as in the early XXth century, but the solutions are different nowadays. As for the social problems that appeared in the Transylvanian world regarding interfaith intermarriages, the Greek-Catholic Church offered exemptions, in order not to lose their parishioners. However, either exemptions arrive too late, after the marriage, or in other cases the priest requests them after the marriage, because the bride and groom don´t have time to wait, as the groom must go into the army, or the religious fasting is approaching. In order to prevent the concubinage or the civil marriage without the religious marriage, the Greek–Catholic priests agree to marry the young people of different confessions, before or without a religious exemption. Sometimes, the applications for exemptions are accompanied by an act by which the newlyweds promise to baptise and educate their children in the Greek-Catholic religion.Beyond the social and religious problems created, the interfaith marriages contribute to the intercultural communication between different communities.
