Docomomo International: 25 years of existence

Summary/Abstract: Docomomo International is an organization that brings together architects, art historians and conservators from around the world in order to improve measures of documentation, conservation and protection of monuments of modern architecture. Since its establishment in 1990, Docomomo International with its work and engagement have expanded exploration of modern architecture movement in the world, but also improved the performance of the documentation, classification and protection of monuments of modern architecture. The fact that the Docomomo often respond before an institution of the issue of endangered buildings of modern architecture shows the importance that the organization has to preserve the architectural heritage of the twentieth century. And so the International Register of significant examples of modern architecture is created which national sections complement each year. Due to the large contribution of historiography and also to the protection of architectural heritage, it is important to make a review of the activities of the association during the past 25 years but also draw attention to the work of the national section, which exists for four years now and is actively working to promote and protect modern architecture in Serbia through numerous activities such as lectures, exhibitions, educational walks for the public and others.
