Summary/Abstract: Konik in Montenegro is not only the largest refugee camp in the Balkans, it is also a symbol of the social exclusion of the Roma in Kosovo, who have lived in the camp since the end of war in Kosovo. Officially, it is estimated that a population of about 2,000-4,000 Roma live in the Konik camp. During the war, they lost their documents, which led to a growing accumulation of problems, including a lack of access to basic services, such as health care, social assistance or education. As a result of negotiations concerning the accession of Montenegro to the European Union, Konik has drawn the interest of politicians.
