Summary/Abstract: An individual’s identity is the outcome of many factors from the person’s own view of his/herself to social, cultural, religious, and political influences. The postmodern social and cultural variables have drastically challenged and called into question a human being’s identity. This article aims at delineating postmodern man’s view of his identity from the socio-cultural viewpoint in Harold Pinter’s major plays with special references to The Caretaker and to The Birthday Party hinging on Pinter's Comedy of Menace Theatre. It tries to show how Pinter has crystallized the shattered identity of man at the mercy of social and cultural threats characteristic of postmodern era.
