Summary/Abstract: After Derrida discussed Warburton’s oneirocritie, he announced his„coupure freudienne” from the topic. Even if he did not actually use theterm “epistemology”, “la coupure” worked like one, because itseparated the European paradigm of the science of dreams, defined byFreud, from the prescience of dreams, European, too, inaugurated byWarburton, as the author of Essai sur les Hiéroglyphes desÉgyptiens…We feel bound to add that this Warburton inspired us to thinkof the other Europe, G. R. Hocke’s mannerist one, and so did Derridawhile discussing Warburton. That is why we will consider this Derrida amannerist author... Paradoxical as it may seem, Derrida resorted to thehieroglyphic writing (Warburton’s) approached prior to his “coupurefreudienne” while he analysed Freud’s manner of interpreting dreams, that is when he was actually after “la coupure”.
