Summary/Abstract: In this article we adopt the hypotheses that the attributive function is the basic function of the adjective in French. We will examine which semantic features limit the passage from the attributive function to the predicative function – which is the second most important function of the adjective – and which semantic features make it possible. I.e., we will examine to which extend the passage from attributive to predicative function is possible in relation with the different attributive uses of the primary (i.e. basic level) adjective. We will analyze the restrictions caused by the basic predicative structure and what allows raising them. In that way we will try to define the specificity of adjective predication.
