Adjectival lexical antonyms on the material of the associative dictionary

Summary/Abstract: In this paper, using the analytical, corpus, contrastive and comparative method, we analyse the adjective lexical antonyms which are incurred as a result of associations on materials excerped from Asocijativni rečnik (Piper i dr. 2005). The aim of this paper is to examine the extent to which the frequency of occurrence of certain related associations with the meaning of the adjective and the degree of conflict among members antonyms pairs, and to study the way how the mental lexicon works. It was concluded that with real antonyms, antonym, in most cases occurs as the first association. With unreal antonyms, as first association occurs synonum, not antonym.
