Summary/Abstract: The article examines selected works by representatives of the Polish-Ukrainian literary borderlandof the nineteenth century (Michal Czajkowski, Michal Grabowski, Zenon Fisz and PaulinSwiecicki) for the presence of these elements in a local myth. The definition of myth, its determinantsand functions assumed by Ernst Cassirer’s and Mircea Eliade’s conception, which, as seems,to best reflect the nature and structure of local myth, recorded in the works of these writers.Selected and described such elements of local myth, as its reproducibility, dichotomy character,sacred and Christian folklore and timelessness. It was shown, that in order to create this mythmade reinterpretation of history, reality combined with imagination, literature with folklore, pagancustoms with Christian faith.
