Summary/Abstract: The article focuses on Amy Tan’s ingenious experiments with story-telling as well as the mother-daughter voices it foregrounds. It analyses the way in which the process of story-telling brings with it reconciliation and release of burdens of the past. It also highlights the manner in which, while constructing female versions of their immigrant experiences, the narrators help Tan articulate a postmodern preoccupation with the construction of history.
